Jordan-based
magazine The Muslim 500 has named Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan as Man
of the Year and US Congresswoman Rashida Talib as Woman of the Year.
The
magazine wrote while awarding the award to Imran Khan that if 'The Muslim 500'
had been published in 1992, Imran Khan would have already been named 'Muslim
Man of the Year' for his outstanding performance in cricket. The magazine
quoted Imran Khan, who picked up the World Cup trophy, as saying that Imran
Khan had launched a successful fundraising campaign to build a hospital for the
treatment of cancer patients as well as research.
It
was further written: 'It was his great reaction to the loss of his mother to
cancer in 1985 and this campaign not only increased his popularity among
Pakistanis immensely but also made him the star in the eyes of overseas
compatriots ۔ There is no doubt that he took part in
this campaign generously. Finally, in 1994, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer
Hospital opened its doors in Lahore. The editor writes that 75% of the patients
of this hospital are treated for free.
According
to the magazine: “Imran Khan, determined to reform the country, became the
Prime Minister of Pakistan in 2018 after 22 years of struggle and he fought the
civilian political establishment of Pakistan, which is suffering from
corruption and mismanagement. Also to his credit, the most important thing is
that after taking office in August 2018, Imran Khan made it clear that one of
his top priorities is to work for lasting peace with India. ۔ He wanted to normalize relations through trade and resolve the
Kashmir issue, the biggest obstacle to relations.
The
magazine is an independent research institute run by the Royal Islamic Center
for Strategic Studies (RISSC). After this award received by the Prime Minister,
an unending series of congratulations from Pakistan and all over the world
started and it is currently trending on Twitter.
Leading
Turkish journalist Elf Ahmet wrote: "Congratulations to all Pakistanis on
Imran Khan being declared the leader of the Muslim world."
