Thousands of farmers protesting India's new agricultural laws as a threat to their livelihood have said they're going to continue their sit-in day and night despite the deaths of some farmers thanks to the severe cold. According to Reuters, farmers within the northern Indian states of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh are staging sit-ins on the country's main highways for weeks. Farmers protesting in temperatures of two to 3 degrees Celsius are demanding the repeal of latest agricultural laws.
Protesting farmers include an outsized number of elderly people. Farmers say they're going to face severe cold in northern India and therefore the capital, New Delhi, to force Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration to repeal new agricultural laws introduced in September."It is extremely difficult to line up a protest camp this season, but we aren't afraid," said Karbalbir, an elderly farmer from Patiala district in Punjab. we'll not return until the stress are met. If we had to die here, we might die
Since the top of Wimber, thousands of farmers have arrived in trucks and tractors to line up protest camps on New Delhi's borders. About 30 protesters are killed since then. Farmers say most of the deaths were caused by severe weather , while about 10 people were killed in traffic accidents near protest sites. Pagh Singh, a 76-year-old farmer wrapped during a blue blanket, said: "We don't want more people to be killed during this protest and that i hope Modi and his government will take back the laws soon. this is often democracy and Modi we've to concentrate .
After the temperature dropped, one among the most protest sites became alittle sea of tents and tarpaulin-covered tractor-trolleys, but some protesters had to spend the night soccer within the open. A farmer named Sarmandar Singh said, "I don't care how cold it gets. i'm not scared of the cold or Modi. Our struggle will continue till the return of laws."
